Effectiveness Evaluation of a Diabetes Ramadan Conversation Map Intervention for Managing Type 2
Israel • 2018
Effectiveness Evaluation of a Diabetes Ramadan Conversation Map® intervention for Managing Type 2 Diabetes During Ramadan research was presented in October 2018, at the European Association of the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Berlin.
This research is a first of its kind, as it evaluates not only clinical outcomes, but healthcare utilization of people with type 2 diabetes who choose to fast during Ramadan. The four-year duration study included a total of 1,732 individuals with 1,099 with A1C above 7% at the start of the intervention. The intervention was a Managing Diabetes During Ramadan Conversation Map tool.
After six months post intervention, glucose improved and A1C was reduced, without reduction in LDL. With the group that had starting A1C above 7%, glucose improved and reduction in A1C was observed, as well as significant reduction in LDL, fewer primary care visits between pre-and post-periods, improvement in medication adherence, and other reduction in different laboratory results.
