Adapting the Conversation Map® Education Tools to African Americans with Diabetes

USA • 2011

Improvements to the Map Tool was a result of this study: a) cultural sensitivity — modified curriculum related to social/religious events and food preparation and eating; b) literacy — read accompanying cards to class instead of asking the study participants to read the cards; c) expansion of content during class discussion and participant questions related to medications, healthful eating, physical activity and monitoring; participant improvements included weight loss and lower A1c, LDL, and triglycerides.
