Map Tools vs. DESMOND; no statistical differences between two groups in terms of DSME, satisfaction, or biometric measures (fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, cholesterol, creatinine, BP, BMI), metabolic changes; Map Tools are more cost effective; dietary advice, group experience and learning diabetes were the most meaningful aspects of the education sessions; Map Tools outcomes: Fasting Glucose: baseline 9.8 mg/dL +/- 3.1 to post-study 6.8 mg/dL +/- 2.0; HbA1c: baseline 8.6% +/- 2.1 to post-study 7.0% +/- 1.0 (n=34); Total Cholesterol: baseline 5.1 mmol/L +/- 0.9 (or 91.8 mg/dl) to 4.30 mmol/L +/- 0.7 (or 77.4 mg/dL); Creatinine: baseline 93.5 mg/dL +/- 12.0 to post-study 85.87 mg/dL +/- 15.0; BMI: baseline 31.2 Kg/m2 +/- 5.1 to post-study 30.53 kg/m2 +/- 5.0; Systolic BP: baseline 138.9 mmHg +/- 18 to post-study 140.56 mmHG +/- 17.1; Diastolic BP: baseline 80.8 mmHg +/- 8.0 to post-study 81.04 mmHg +/- 10.9.
